Volunteers

It takes a lot of work to run a successful swim meet.  As such, parent participation is essential to a swim meet.  The Sharks must furnish more than 30 volunteers for away meets and we need 50 volunteers for each home meet.

To spread the work around, we expect each parent to help out at regular season meets. The more volunteers we have, the less we have to work as a whole.  Parents are given the opportunity to sign up for work areas during registration.  If you did not, then have no fear, we may be asking you at the meets.  WE NEED YOU!

The positions that need to be filled at the swim meets are described below.  The positions are divided into three (3) groups depending on training and/or experience needed.

No Experience Needed

Parents of new swimmers are encouraged to sign up for these jobs.  Each job is important and fun!

Set-up and Clean-up Workers:  Assist in setting up equipment before meets and packing up after meets.  They also coordinate clean-up around the pool area and parking lots.  Report to the Equipment Manager when you arrive at the meet for guidance.

Contact:  Gary Helm at 713-910-3804 or e-mail him

Refreshment Stand Workers:  Aid in getting the refreshment stand set-up, selling refreshments and cleaning up the refreshment stand after the end of the meet.  This is only for home meets.  Report to the Concessions Coordinator when you arrive at the meet for guidance.

Runners:  Collect entry cards and disqualification (DQ) slips from the timers and take them to the Head Scorer.

Tent Parents:  Call to the ready area for each event and maintain order in the team's ready area and Sharks tent area.  This is a crucial job to keep the meet running smoothly.  We do have the best Tent Coordinator in the league for guidance.

Scorers:  Records names, events, times and points for computer entry.  Usually one assistant call times to the head scorer who inputs the data in the computer and checks the times for accuracy.  The scorers maintain a running total of each team's score.  These individuals work closely with the Clerk of Course.

Contact: Zory Zayas at 281-485-6168 or e-mail her

Ribbon Writers:  Receive entry cards, check to make sure they are in event order and place printed results labels on the ribbons.  These folks work with the Meet Ribbon Coordinator who is responsible for sorting and distributing the ribbons at the next week's practices.

Contact:  This position is currently open

Timers:  We need 18 timers for each half of every meet.  That is a total of 36 timers.  Each team brings timers to every meet so that duties are shared.  We have a chief timer to teach you how to operate the stopwatch in case you have never used one before and go through the process of timing an event.
