SBAST Scholarship Program

The goal of the SBAST Scholarship Program is an effort to support swimmers who have been members of the South Belt Area Swim Team, and endeavor to gain a higher education after graduation from high school.

Scholarships will be awarded annually based on the amount of scholarship funds available and the number of applicants in any given year.  The SBAST Board will determine the amount and number of scholarships to be awarded during the June board meeting.  Selection of recipients will be made from qualified swimmers that have completed and submitted the Scholarship Application by June 1st to any member of the Scholarship Committee.

Scholarship disbursements will be calculated as follows once the total amount of funds available and number of recipients have been determined:

  • A = Number of years recipient has participated in the SBAST program
  • B = Total number of years of participation by all recipients
  • C = Total amount of funds available for disbursement
  • D = Amount of funds the recipient will receive

D = (A/B) x C

Recipients will be chosen by the Scholarship Committee and submitted to the SBAST Board of Directors for approval at the June board meeting.  Scholarship awards will be announced at the July SBAST Team Banquet.  The funds will be deposited to the recipient's account at the college or university by the SBAST treasurer upon verification of enrollment.  Scholarship recipients must have enrolled at a college or university by the end of January 2008 to receive the scholarship or forfeit.
