Information About Practices

Practices are important!  Because swimmers will benefit greatly by regular attendance at practice sessions, roll will be taken.  At practices, participants will receive instructions in the competitive strokes, racing starts and turns and will be given the opportunity to build physical endurance.  Regular attendance at practice will also help the swimmers and families keep up with what's going on, since newsletters and other information is distributed at practice sessions.

This year we will maintain a roster on the Monday and Tuesday practices.  Parents must initial this roster to reflect whether their swimmers will be at the upcoming Saturday meet.  This is necessary due to meet attendance issues.  Unexpected no-shows causes delay in scratches.  Just 10 no-shows will cause 40 scratches.

Please Be On Time

Swimmers should be at the pool, ready to begin practice at the time their session is scheduled to begin.  Younger swimmers should be picked up promptly after their practice session ends.  Parents of younger swimmers practicing at Beverly Hills Intermediate must come around to the pool to pick up their swimmer; they will not be allowed to walk around the front to find you.  Picking up your swimmer on time is extremely important.  There is no way our coaches can be expected to properly supervise swimmers in the pool while also watching swimmers waiting for a ride home both inside and outside of the pool area.

This is a very important safety issue for all participants.  Click here to get information about car-pooling.

Speaking With Coaches

Although we encourage parent participation in their swimmers progress, the coaches are responsible for a large number of swimmers during practice sessions, plus a lot must be accomplished during each session.

Parents should refrain from assisting coaches in anyway unless specifically requested by the coaches.  The coaches are former competitive swimmers as well as trained in teaching young swimmers.  They can well gauge the progress and abilities of our swimmers.

Please avoid conferences with coaches during practice sessions.  If you need to speak to a coach regarding a practice issue, please use one of the following times:

  • Prior to the 5:00 pm practice
  • After the 7:00 pm practice
  • After the 8:30 am practice
  • Or contact them by phone or e-mail

Issues regarding swim team policy, meets or grievances should be directed toward a Board Member.

The coaches are assigned to specific lanes of children for meets, so it would be a good idea for you to find out the name of your child's coach.  Simply ask your swimmer, the coaches will introduce themselves at the practices.
